FRANCE HAS MADE IT A CRIME FOR YOUR BOSS TO EMAIL YOU AFTER WORK

I am assuming that almost all bosses in Nigeria don’t respect the after work hours policy especially when it comes to emails. Well in France, a new law has been passed that makes it illegal for your employer to email you after working hours, this law was made under “The right to disconnect” amendment.

However, only employees that are working in a company with 50 or more workers are covered by this law, which means that if you work at a digital agency with less than 20 staff, you can’t do anything should your employer decides to send an email at 2am in the morning.

According to Benoit Hamon of the French National Assembly via BBC “All the studies show there is far more work-related stress today than there used to be, and that the stress is constant. Employees physically leave the office, but they do not leave their work. They remain attached to a kind of electronic leash— like a dog. The texts, the messages, the emails — they colonize the life of the individual to the point where he or she eventually breaks down.”

Lol @ electronic leash.

Of course, you need not be told that this kind of law can’t see the light of day in a country like Nigeria, if it does, Nigerian bosses will be left with no choice but to redefine the meaning of “work hours” in your contract.
